Anciet Egypt Entertainment Using Toys

Young children in ancient Egypt, just like today loved dolls. Of coarse there were some differences then today having to do with how they are made. Some dolls in the olden days were made by stuffing them with cloth. Others were carved with ivory or wood. A rare old doll was made from a carved piece of wood with bulbous at the bottom decreasing to a tiny top with shoulders and barely arms. Talk about deformed. They were also called paddle dolls and they had beaded hair. Since I've already weirded you guys out lets talk about the more common old dolls. These dolls have movable arms and are carved from wood. Models in wood or clay are cats, dogs, donkeys, mongooses, hedge hogs, and pig. Wow Egyptians sure were animal lovers.

Whats your Egypt House Like?!

No matter if you were a pharaoh or a peasant your ancient Egypt house was made of sun dried brick. Houses there had very few windows because I mean who wants to burn in that desert sun?! Now you may be thinking who would want to live in that dark place. Well they were actually fairly small and used for eating and sleeping. If you looked at the inside of these old houses then its possible you would see two strange looking gods. One was called Taweret and this god was the goddess of birth and raising children. The other god is Bes. This god was seemed to protect the home from all danger. If I was in ancient Egypt I don't think I would believe a statue would protect me.

Who's Your Daddy!

Growing up in ancient Egypt, is just like growing up in America for some family's, the father is the head of the house hold. However this goes a little bit more extreme then in America. The father was responsible for making all decisions, determining chores, when to make a purchase, what religious actions to make, and anything else that effected the whole family. Now, some of you may be thinking o sweet! No decision making. Well get this, if you were a girl/women in ancient Egypt your father would be in charge of you until you married, but even then your husband would rule you. However you must remember what time era you are dealing with. The woman in ancient Egypt actually had more rights then most woman across the nation. They got to choose who they marry/divorce, begin lawsuits, travel on their own, and choose what to where. Now lets switch gears and say your a child. Children are free to entertain themselves and maybe even explore the villages and the banks of the Nile. I would be okay with that. However I would not wear the "oh so trendy" side lock. A side lock is half your head shaved, pretty self explanatory.

Anciet Entertainment

Children in ancient Egypt were in some ways just like the children here. They would play board games and more physical games for entertainment. There vision of tug a war seems way more interesting then our old rope! In this vision they would have the two captains or the two people in the front grab each others wrist... Then a human chain would form behind them and try to pull their captains apart. Another game is called buck-buck which is also played by modern-day boy scouts. A standing group of six to eight boys would form a tower by linking their arms over their shoulders then the other members of their team would leap on top. (Warning:don't try this game at home.) Again another harmful but most likely fun game s is trying to jump over a human obstacle! Another game that seems odd is where two players shot out a number of fingers while yelling even or odd and after you add up the numbers it must match or else you loose. Boys and en in Egypt enjoyed wrestling. I don't see how! I mean sweaty and gross. I would take more of an interest in the girly games. For example, juggling or a simple game of catch. However in ancient Egypt to be a rebel while playing catch you would get on each others backs and try to keep three balls moving at once. You see, when it comes to games the only difference is we have a little more control :) .

Hard Work! For What!?

Can you imagine working every single day for foods and goods instead of money? Well, this was the life of ancient Egyptians. The only vacations they got were for the most part were for the special holy days of the year. These days called for every Egyptian to lay down their tools and gather at a local temple. Now, what they did at the temple seems very strange to us in some ways but very normal to them. First, they would watch a procession of idols. Next, they would feast on food supplied by the temple. Just like us American fatties. :) The most popular of these days was a celebration called Opet. This was when the idols of Mut and Khonsu traveled from Karnak Temple to Luxor Temple to celebrate marriage. To me, that kind of sounds like an anniversary.
When it comes to actually working (blah), Egyptian jobs seemed to rely on the social pyramid. Ha ha these Egyptians love pyramids! Well anyways, at the top of the social pyramid you had the pharaohs and kings. In the center u had your doctors, scribes, soldiers, and artisans. Sitting at the bottom was simply peasants and slaves. The bottom of the pyramid was the highest population. These people built temples and pyramids, took care of homes, worked the fields, and tended herds and flocks. Not my idea of a fun day. However if you were a farmer you would most likely have a very low standard of living. This happens because most of farmers earnings go to taxes. From this information I have learned that i would not fit in if i lived in ancient Egypt.
